The University of Iowa has 24 colleges and programs among the top 25 in the nation.

Kevin Campbell, UI professor and internationally recognized researcher in the field of muscular dystrophy, has been named the 2026 winner of the August M. Watanabe Prize in Translational Research, a prestigious award that recognizes significant contributions to translational research.

Four Iowa faculty members — Casey DeRoo, Donika Kelly, Greg LeFevre, and Mary Weber — have been selected as recipients of the Iowa Mid-Career Faculty Scholar Awards for 2026. The award provides funding to tenured associate professors who have a national or international reputation in their disciplines and are exceptional teachers.

Four University of Iowa faculty members will receive the 2026 President and Provost Award for Teaching Excellence, recognizing exceptional, sustained contributions to student learning and success. This year’s recipients are Colleen Bringman, Alison K. Guernsey, Ted Neal, and Chad Tracy.

The Iowa Board of Regents will recognize six outstanding University of Iowa faculty members for their extraordinary contributions and sustained record of distinction in teaching, scholarship, and service.

Susan Shen, assistant professor of psychiatry in the Carver College of Medicine, is the first from UI and the first female psychiatrist to receive a coveted Avenir Award grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Shen attributes winning the award to a supportive department and a “bold” grant proposal.

Reese Rosenmeyer is training to bring care closer to home through the Carver Rural Iowa Scholars Program, which offers mentorship, rural clinical experience, and loan repayment to prepare future physicians. Learn more about her journey.

Ed Stone, professor of ophthalmology and visual sciences at the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine and director of the Institute for Vision Research at the UI, has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine.
