The University of Iowa is hosting the 5th Annual Iowa Statewide Veterans Conference on Monday, Sept. 29th. Titled “Women of the Military,” the conference will focus on the dynamic impact women have on the military, as well as how the military impacts them.

Grant Brown, a student from Clive, Iowa, who is seeking his doctoral degree in biostatistics from the UI College of Public Health, is working with faculty member Jacob Oleson to develop open source software that will model and predict the spread of the Ebola epidemic.

American-born artist to lecture on art of India

Waswo X. Waswo will lecture Thursday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m. in room 240 of Art Building West on the University of Iowa campus. His talk, “Indian Printmaking: Rediscovery, Revolution and Renewal,” tells the story of his journey into collecting Indian prints and summarizes the history of fine art printmaking in India.

Kid Captain Matthew McCarthy of Marion, Iowa, had a cold, and the virus from the cold activated his immune system, which mistakenly attacked the myelin in his spinal cord, resulting in messages not being carried to and from the brain properly. McCarthy receives all of his primary care at UI Children’s Hospital.
