Maree Scholl, of Mason City, was playing at the playground when a 17-foot bar fell off of a piece of playground equipment and hit her in the head. Doctors at her hometown hospital sent her to UI Children’s Hospital, where a team of specialists could determine the extent of her injuries.

Come join the celebration of Edgar Folk’s influential life as he marks his 100th birthday from 2 to 4 p.m., Friday, Nov. 7, in the Eckstein Medical Research Building Atrium. Folk is a professor emeritus of molecular physiology and biophysics in the UI Carver College of Medicine.

Along with a group of 100 military personnel, UI student veteran Donna Macek, who is currently pursuing the Bachelor of Liberal Studies (BLS) online degree program, helped carry the United States flag onto the football field at Kinnick stadium during the pregame ceremonies on Saturday.
