'Sesame Street' characters make children more clever

A UI College of Education study showed that children who watched a Sesame Street segment on impulse control could wait nearly four minutes longer for a snack than children who did not see it, in an article on how the show was created to boost children’s confidence and school readiness.

Bacteria may cause Type 2 diabetes

A UI study shows that chronic exposure to a toxin made by staph bacteria produces in rabbits the hallmark symptoms of Type 2 diabetes, including insulin resistance and glucose intolerance. The findings suggest that eliminating staph bacteria or neutralizing the toxins might have potential for preventing or treating the disease.
