On Dec. 18–21, nearly 1,700 University of Iowa students will receive their degrees during in-person and livestreamed commencement ceremonies, beginning with the College of Education’s undergraduate and Teacher Education Program recognition on Dec. 18 and concluding with the College of Engineering, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and University College ceremonies on Dec. 21.

Thursday, Dec. 18
College of Education
Undergraduate Commencement and Teacher Education Program Recognition Ceremony
4 p.m.
Hancher Auditorium
Dean Dan Clay will give the welcome and confer degrees along with UI President Barbara Wilson.
Matt Degner, an alumnus of the College of Education and superintendent of the Iowa City Community School District, will be the keynote speaker.
Ashley Rila, clinical assistant professor of special education and affiliated faculty member with the College of Education’s Scanlan Center for School Mental Health, will be the faculty speaker.
Lexi Moon, of Waukee Iowa, will be the student speaker. Moon is graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in art education from the College of Education’s Teacher Education Program and a Bachelor of Arts in art from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Mark McDermott, associate dean for undergraduate education and educator preparation, will recognize those who completed the Teacher Education Program. Kathy Schuh, professor of learning sciences and educational psychology, will read the names of those receiving their Bachelor of Arts in Education Studies and Human Relations.

Dean Julie Zerwic will deliver messages to students and UI President Barbara Wilson will confer degrees.
Dan Lose, the ceremony’s keynote speaker, is the recipient of the Emerging Nurse Leader Award.
Charlotte Wetjen, from Williamsburg, Iowa, will deliver the student address for the Prelicensure BSN class, and Jamie McGrath, from Clear Lake, Iowa, will address the RNBSN class.

Dean Amy Kristof-Brown will share messages with graduates, and UI President Barbara Wilson will confer degrees.
The commencement address will be delivered by Maria Turner, managing director at AArete LLC, member of the Tippie Advisory Board, and former chair of the Tippie Professional Accounting Council.
Jordyn Johnson, from Davenport, Iowa, will be the student speaker. Johnson is graduating with a BBA in Entrepreneurial Management.

Dean Ann McKenna will deliver messages to students, and UI President Barbara Wilson will confer degrees.
Luke Ryon, from Mount Pleasant, Iowa, will be the student speaker. Ryon will be graduating with a degree in biomedical engineering.

Dean Sara Sanders and Kevin Kregel, executive vice president and provost, will confer degrees at the ceremony, which includes graduates in CLAS and University College.
