African-ancestry babies get less prenatal care in Brazil

Babies in Brazil of African ancestry, alone or mixed, are more likely to have low birth weights and to be born prematurely than those born to parents of European-only ancestry, according to a new study from the University of Iowa. The reasons may be less use of prenatal care facilities and where non-European-only ethnic groups live. Findings appear in the "American Journal of Public Health."

Crisis center begins training UI international students for chat program

The Johnson County Crisis Center has begun training 12 University of Iowa international students to offer online Crisis Chat in Mandarin Chinese to students, and officials there say the implementation of this service will provide students with more resources when they seek help.
Esperanza and Cruz Martinez immgrated to the U.S. from Mexico in the early 20th century and eventually moved to Iowa.
