Search committee reviewing prospective candidates in June
Thursday, June 8, 2017

The search committee for the University of Iowa’s new vice president for medical affairs and dean of the Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine has been working to refine the applicant pool with the help of Isaacson, Miller Inc. The committee will meet in June to further narrow the pool of applicants to be invited for interviews. Semifinalist interviews will be conducted in Chicago in July.

The search committee, co-chaired by Bruce Gantz, head of the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, and Caroll Reasoner, vice president for legal affairs and general counsel, met with the search firm Isaacson, Miller in May to discuss strategy and market feedback, and reviewed information about preliminary candidates and prospects.

In June, the search committee and the Isaacson, Miller team will continue to refine the candidate pool. After interviews with semifinalists in July, final candidates will come to the university for on-campus interviews.

Jean Robillard, who currently holds the position, announced in September plans to step down from his leadership role overseeing UI Health Care, which is comprised of the UI Carver College of Medicine, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and University of Iowa Physicians.

After UI President J. Bruce Harreld named the search committee co-chairs in October, the committee’s 17 members were announced in November. Isaacson, Miller Inc. was selected as the search firm to assist in the search in March.

Robillard will continue to serve as vice president and dean until a new leader is named.
