Nominations sought for VP for student life

The chair of the search committee for the next vice president for student life invites members of the UI community to nominate individuals they believe to be qualified to serve in the role.

CAMBUS invites community to participate in open houses Nov. 12–14

Voyager 2 journeys into interstellar space

University of Iowa physicists reported that the spacecraft Voyager 2 has entered interstellar space. BBC spoke with Don Gurnett, professor emeritus in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, and carried his comments in a print story and in a broadcast on the BBC World Service radio.

Culshaw elected vice president/president-elect of Association of Research Libraries

John Culshaw, the Jack B. King University Librarian at the University of Iowa, has been elected to serve as incoming vice president/president-elect for the Association of Research Libraries (ARL). Culshaw will become ARL president on Oct. 7, 2020.

Voyager 2 reaches interstellar space

University of Iowa researchers report the spacecraft Voyager 2 has reached interstellar space, following Voyager 1’s historic passage six years ago. In the study, the researchers note a jump in plasma density detected by an Iowa-led plasma wave instrument on the spacecraft as evidence.

UI awarded $1M grant to train students who speak ASL as vocational rehabilitation counselors

Thanks to a nearly $1-million-dollar federal grant received by the University of Iowa College of Education, individuals who are deaf or with hearing loss will be able to receive services from vocational rehabilitation counselors who speak American Sign Language (ASL).
