UI study finds potential link between cardiovascular death and some types of pesticides

A new study from the University of Iowa suggests that people who have higher levels of a chemical in their body that indicates exposure to commonly used insecticides die of cardiovascular disease at a significantly higher rate.

University of Iowa researchers have identified a host of bacteria and fungi that potentially could be used to get rid of pollutants that gather on buildings and other surfaces. The findings are reported in American Chemical Society journal Earth and Space Chemistry.
Hayden Fry, 90, passes away

Harriet Nembhard named new dean of College of Engineering

Harriet B. Nembhard, the Eric R. Smith Professor of Engineering and head of the School of Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon, has been named dean of the University of Iowa College of Engineering. She will begin June 29.
