A study from the UI College of Public Health finds that chemicals used to manufacture plastic food and water containers in recent years do not cause obesity. The chemicals replaced another chemical that was found to cause a host of endocrine-health issues.

Iowa Law alumnus ‘at home’ as he prepares to practice law in Iowa

Thomas Laehn decided to apply to law school at the University of Iowa so he could return to his home state, where he knew there was a shortage of attorneys. Even though he also had a job offer in New York City, he’s staying in Iowa.

Algharrawi earns UI Research Foundation Inventor Award

Saba Rasheed Ali named associate dean for research at the UI College of Education

NSF grant helps UI Museum of Natural History upgrade important ornithology collection

Thanks to a grant from the National Science Foundation, the UI Museum of Natural History is upgrading the storage of its ornithology collection, which features more than 31,000 bird, nest, and egg specimens. Meanwhile, students are getting valuable experience in museum collections management.

Play based on UI professor’s research brings history to life in Keokuk and Coralville, Iowa

Research completed by Leslie Schwalm, UI professor of history and gender, women’s, and sexuality studies, has inspired a play written by UI graduate student Margot Connolly. Arts Share is bringing Cross-Examined, a play about the desegregation of Keokuk schools, to libraries in Keokuk and Coralville, Iowa.

All-female hybrid salamanders take genes from males of three different species to breed

A UI study shows that a unique all-female lineage of salamander equally balances genes from the males of three other salamander species. The findings highlight the bizarre ways some animals reproduce in order to preserve their species. The results were published in the journal “Genome Biology and Evolution.”
