John M. Carethers, chair of the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, the first final candidate for the next University of Iowa vice president for medical affairs and dean of the UI Carver College of Medicine. He will visit campus Oct. 3.

A new report from the University of Iowa includes several policy and program recommendations to address the state’s opioid crisis after UI representatives led a process involving dozens of stakeholders from across the state.

A university search committee has selected two final candidates for the next vice president for medical affairs and dean of the Carver College of Medicine. The candidates will visit campus over the next two weeks to meet with faculty, staff, and leadership as well as participate in public forums.

John Keller, dean of the Graduate College and associate provost, has been appointed interim vice president for research and economic development. Retaining his current responsibilities, Keller will take on this additional role Oct. 1.
