Two years into its existence, the UI’s English and creative writing major has exceeded expectations for enrollment, boasting 526 students in fall 2017. Faculty and students say enrollment in the program shows a passion for creative writing at the UI.

As a part of the celebration, NADS is actively engaging the community to highlight the center’s contributions in making Iowa a better place to live. Some of these activities include public lectures, open houses, coloring contests for kids, an honorary simulator-naming competition, and more.

Trudy Huskamp Peterson, University of Iowa alumna and former acting archivist of the United States, circles the globe to assist in organizing and safeguarding human rights records.

Anita Krug, interim Toni Rembe Dean and professor of law at University of Washington School of Law, is the fifth finalist for the next University of Iowa College of Law N. William Hines Dean. She will visit campus Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 26 and 27.

Members of the UI ASME club at the College of Engineering are building a solar car with hopes of competing in a cross-country race and visiting all 99 Iowa counties. To make their dream come true, they are trying to raise $80,000 through fundraising and sponsorship.

The new undergraduate degree in creative writing offered by the University of Iowa Department of English further cements Iowa's distinction as “The Writing University,” a destination for writers from all over the world.

The Annex at the Seamans Center for the Engineering Arts and Sciences offers additional classroom and research space, including a fluids workshop with high-tech wind tunnel, water channel, towing tank, and channel flume. The Annex also houses the college’s expanded Student Development Center, which offers academic and career counseling.

Luther Smith’s achievements were many. A Tuskegee Airmen pilot, he was a decorated World War II hero. He experienced discrimination throughout his life, especially after the war when he worked as an aerospace engineer, a time when few black men or women held such positions. He was also a Hawkeye.
