President Harreld thanks faculty, staff, and students for the work they've done this year, congratulates graduating seniors on their academic achievement, and looks forward to the impact these new graduates will have on the world.

As part of its ongoing education and awareness efforts, the UI Information Security & Policy Office is reminding the campus to always be vigilant of “phishing” attacks—scams that use emails or phone calls to solicit personal or confidential information that the scammer uses illicitly.

On Wednesday, May 11, the UI announced the fourth candidate for the position of assistant vice president and director of public safety. Scott Beckner, director of public safety at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, Georgia, will visit campus May 12 and 13.

Write down those saved messages! The University of Iowa will upgrade its campus telephone voice mail system May 19 through June 2. The new voice mail system will function exactly as the previous version, but old messages cannot be transferred to the new system.

On Sunday, May 8, the UI announced the third candidate for the position of assistant vice president and director of public safety. Douglas Tripp, senior director of safety and security for Orange County Public Schools in Florida, will visit campus May 9 and 10.

A team of UI students that grew dozens of heads of lettuce in PVC pipes via hydroponics was named the winner of the Frontier-Tippie Impact Competition this semester.

This year, about 4,930 University of Iowa students will be recognized at spring 2016 commencement ceremonies, which begin May 12 with the College of Pharmacy commencement, and end June 3.

President Harreld: "We will not tolerate anything but a safe and inclusive campus for students of all backgrounds. No one should feel that their race or any aspect of their identity makes them a target. This kind of violence is unacceptable and must be denounced by the entire community."

On May 4, the University of Iowa Police Department issued a Crime Alert after learning one of our students reported a racially motivated attack. We are saddened and outraged by the horrible event that transpired Saturday evening. This kind of violence is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

The UI's Studio Arts programs have been in temporary quarters since the 2008 flood damaged their main buildings. This week, the departments are moving back to campus and into a new building.
