UI announces date for Catlett Hall grand opening

The University of Iowa is excited to announce that the dedication of the new Elizabeth Catlett Residence Hall will take place on Friday, July 28. The 12-story residence hall, named for renowned sculptor and printmaker Elizabeth Catlett, will be the university’s largest, housing 1,049 students.

Dodge to become associate provost for diversity, equity, and inclusion at Bucknell University

The University of Iowa’s chief diversity officer, associate vice president, and Title IX coordinator Dr. Georgina Dodge has accepted a position as associate provost for diversity, equity, and inclusion at Bucknell University, a private institution in rural Pennsylvania. She also will hold the title of adjunct associate professor of English.

Investigators have determined the cause of the fire was accidental and that it was likely started by an idle electrical extension cord.

Saba Rasheed Ali named associate dean for research at the UI College of Education

NSF grant helps UI Museum of Natural History upgrade important ornithology collection

Thanks to a grant from the National Science Foundation, the UI Museum of Natural History is upgrading the storage of its ornithology collection, which features more than 31,000 bird, nest, and egg specimens. Meanwhile, students are getting valuable experience in museum collections management.

Update: Bowen Science Building fire

A June 11 fire in the Bowen Science Building caused an estimated $500,000 in damage, not including water damage. Administrators are working to determine the logistics for those impacted. Many will be housed within other space in the building. More information will be shared as it becomes available.

UI Museum of Art reaches Iowans by operating outside the box

The University of Iowa Museum of Art has been without a building since the flood of 2008. However, as officials await a new structure, the museum staff has kept UIMA relevant through outreach and lending works of art to other museums, bringing its collection to Iowa and the world.
