The public was invited to come to the Hancher construction site and autograph a steel beam that was later hoisted into place. It will disappear from view as construction continues, but about 1,000 signers answered the call, thus leaving their mark on the new performing arts center.

A century-old time capsule, filled mostly with documents by long-gone Wall Street businessmen celebrating New York as a commercial hub, was unsealed on Wednesday. UI American studies faculty member Nick Yablon had the honor of retrieving items from their container.
Students revive UI Homecoming tradition

Students from the University of Iowa Campus Activities Board and the College of Engineering worked together to bring back the corn monument Homecoming tradition. The 25-foot tall monument is made from about 1,100 ears of Iowa corn and can be seen on the Pentacrest through Sunday, Oct. 12.
