University of Iowa head women’s wrestling coach Clarissa Chun and the third-ranked Hawkeyes put on an exceptional show Sunday during the program’s first-ever event at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, the Trailblazer Duals.

The historic meet featured the only four Division 1 schools in the country that have women’s wrestling programs. The Hawkeyes’ opponents included Presbyterian College (Clinton, South Carolina), Lindenwood University (Saint Charles, Missouri), and Sacred Heart University (Fairfield, Connecticut).

Iowa won all three duals, outscoring its opponents 127-5 and posting a 29-1 record in individual matches.

“Our women know how to bring a lot of energy,” says Chun. “They know how to have fun, keep it light, but they also know how to flip that switch and get to business. That’s what is so special about our team.”

The day was made even more special with the announcement that 8,207 Hawkeye fans set an attendance record for a women’s wrestling event.
