Editor’s note:  Since the original publication of this story, the University of Iowa Department of Public Safety has decided to continue to operate the NITE RIDE service on 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. schedule during the spring semester.

The University of Iowa Department of Public Safety will extend NITE RIDE service hours during finals week.

The service, which is operated by UI security officers, provides safe transportation for people of all genders.

NITE RIDE will operate on a 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. schedule starting at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11. These hours will extend throughout winter break.

NITE RIDE is powered by a free mobile application called Translōc Rider, which enables users to pinpoint their location within the NITE RIDE boundary map and request a ride from and to any location within those boundaries. The app also provides users with real-time data on where the NITE RIDE bus is located, as well as its estimated time of arrival.

Those who want to use the app can enter their HawkID login to set up an account or create a Translōc login. Students and staff who don't have access to a smartphone will be able to request a ride by calling the UI Department of Public Safety at 319-384-1111.

For more information about how to request a ride using the mobile application, visit police.uiowa.edu/security/nite-ride.

Accessibility

NITE RIDE has partnered with UI Fleet Services and CAMBUS for access to a wheelchair-accessible vehicle for the NITE RIDE service.

If you are a person with a disability who requires reasonable accommodation in order to use NITE RIDE, reserve a ride by calling 319-384-1111. This service is available during the same hours as NITE RIDE.
