Beginning Wednesday, Nov. 16, fencing and temporary UI Power Plant equipment will be installed at the northeast end of Parking Lot 11 and remain in operation through the 2016–17 winter heating season. This equipment will provide reliable heating and steam service to the campus while two boilers at the main plant undergo conversion to meet new EPA regulations. The modifications to the boilers will contribute to lowering emissions at the plant.

During the construction and installation phase, a number of parking spaces on the east side of the lot will be unavailable (in red in the photo at right), and 110 permit holders will be relocated to the Court Street Parking Ramp. The Capitol Street east entrance will also be closed during construction. It is anticipated that installation will be complete in early January 2017, at which point the majority of spaces and the entrance will reopen.

Once installed, the temporary equipment will occupy less than 50 parking spaces at the northeast end of Parking Lot 11. The temporary equipment is expected to be removed by May 2017.
