Campus system will be upgraded May 19 through June 2
Monday, May 9, 2016

The University of Iowa will upgrade its campus telephone voice mail system May 19–June 2. The new system will work just the same—you can access your voice mail by dialing 5-1000, for example—but saved voice mail messages won’t transfer over to the upgraded system. UI Information Technology Services (ITS) stresses the importance of getting any information you need from your saved messages before the upgrade.

The voice mail upgrade requires three maintenance windows when the system will be offline. While the system is unavailable it will not be possible for callers to leave voice mail messages or for voice-mail box owners to listen to messages. Voice mail trees will also be unavailable.

These windows have been scheduled outside standard business hours:

  • Thursday, May 19, 8 p.m.–1 a.m.
  • Saturday, May 21, 9 a.m.–7 p.m.
  • Thursday, June 2, 8 p.m.–midnight

Information about the transition:

  • 5-1000 (319-335-1000 from off campus) will continue as the voice mail access number.
  • The new voice mail system will function exactly as the previous version. Dial pad menus, greetings, and PIN access codes will remain the same.
  • Old voice mail messages cannot be transferred to the new system. ITS recommends reviewing old voice mail messages before Thursday, May 19.
  • If you need access to a voice mail message stored on the older system, these will be accessible for 30 days. The old system will be erased and decommissioned on July 3.
  • Voice mail trees (also known as auto-attendants) are included with this upgrade. ITS staff are contacting units with these configurations to find alternative solutions.
  • Please do not change voice mail PIN codes between May 19 and June 2. When the final system upgrade is complete, it is possible that  PIN codes changed during this period will be reset.

The upgrade is necessary to continue reliable voice mail service to campus. More information available at its.uiowa.edu/voicemail. If you have questions, contact the ITS Help Desk at 319-384-4357 or its-helpdesk@uiowa.edu
