Forbes magazine has once again rated University of Iowa Health Care as one of the best places to work in the U.S.

UI Health Care was named the No. 7 employer overall and the No. 1 employer in the health care industry category across the country. In 2015, UIHC, Iowa’s only comprehensive academic medical center, was ranked the No. 12 employer overall and the No. 1 health care employer.

“Our nurses, physicians, and all of our staff are intensely focused on service excellence, which makes UI Health Care not just great for patients but also a great place to work,” says Jean E. Robillard, UI vice president for medical affairs. “Our employees are not only outstanding at what they do, they thoroughly enjoy doing it.”

UI Health Care leaders also credit the faculty and staff’s efforts to foster a culture of excellence that values, engages, and enables the workforce. Those efforts, they say, create a welcoming environment and a respect for diversity.

Forbes surveys more than 30,000 American workers, asking them two simple questions: "On a scale of 0–10, how likely would you be to recommend your employer to someone else?" and, "How about other employers in your industry?" The result was a list of 500 companies from industries including retail, education, health care, restaurant, and information technology.

Ken Kates, CEO of UI Hospitals and Clinics, says, “I am continually awed by the loyalty of our employees, and personally proud to serve Iowa with each and every one of them. Our employees work hard every day to provide safe, high-quality care, excellent service, and exceptional outcomes.”
