The University of Iowa’s Executive Leadership Academy-Higher Education (ELA) received a 2019 LEAD Award from HR.com for the third consecutive year. The UI’s ELA program ranked second in the nation for Custom Content Programming: Leadership and Organizational Development.

The award recognizes excellence in internal development and training programs, and winners receive worldwide recognition through HR.com promotions and publications, which reach over 1.2 million members of the human resources field.

University Human Resources (UHR) would like to give a special thanks to ELA-Higher Education program participants and alumni, whose achievements and survey input contributed to the UI’s HR.com submission. A special thanks also goes to ELA-Higher Education program manager Candace Peters, and the entire Organizational Effectiveness team, along with their many campus partners, who sponsor strategic projects for participants to address, present at Immersions, and provide mentorship to individuals in the cohort.

Now in its fourth year, the ELA-Higher Education is a comprehensive leadership development program designed for accomplished mid- to senior-level staff and faculty who fulfill strategic and operational leadership responsibilities. The program develops and enhances participant core competencies essential for effective, agile, and innovative leadership. On average, 32 percent of previous years’ cohort members have received promotion since their participation, and by developing and offering the program in-house, UHR has saved more than $940,000.

This year’s ELA-Higher Education participants presented initiatives they designed in the program as part of the ELA-Higher Education Showcase. The 2020 cohort will be identified by the Selection Committee this month, and will enter the program in mid-summer. Contact candace-peters@uiowa.edu for more information.
