Snowstorm turns campus into world of white

A weekend winter snowstorm transformed the University of Iowa campus into a winter wonderland, covering familiar and iconic sites such as the Old Capitol Museum and the Iowa river with layers of white.

Despite the more than 10 inches of snow that fell on the area Saturday evening through Monday morning, UI students, faculty, and staff went about their regular business Monday, bundling up and heading to classes, lecture halls, labs, and offices.

This was possible thanks to the hardworking Landscape Services staff members with UI Facilities Management. A team of snow plow drivers, skid steer operators, sidewalk sander operators, and shovel crews mobilized in the middle of the night to ensure the campus was safe and navigable—whether by vehicle or foot.

Some creative and dedicated Hawkeyes even took time to etch "Iowa" into the snow on the west side of the Pentacrest lawn, showing that winter weather can be fun for all ages, not just children making snow angels and forts.
