The Iowa Digital Engagement and Learning (IDEAL) initiative will host an Assignment Design Institute Saturday, Oct. 19, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in 350 Van Allen Hall on the University of Iowa campus.

The institute is open to faculty and graduate teaching assistants from all disciplines. There is no cost to attend, and a catered lunch will be provided. Pre-registration is required.

Jim Ridolfo, assistant professor of Writing, Rhetoric and Digital Studies at the University of Kentucky, will give the keynote address. His work is focused on the intersection of rhetorical theory and digital technology.

Institute participants will learn how to create and implement assignments that foster innovation and invite students to engage with broader communities through the use of audio, video, still images, and other technologies. In an IDEAL classroom, students can build a portfolio of work that endures beyond the semester and that is available to the public.

Support for the IDEAL Assignment Design Institute comes from the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost and a College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Excellence and Innovation Award.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all UI-sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, contact Matthew Gilchrist in advance at 319-335-0184 or at matthew-gilchrist@uiowa.edu
