In collaboration with Paramount Presents, the University of Iowa’s Hancher will present Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater on Wednesday, March 19, at 8 p.m. at the Paramount Theatre in Cedar Rapids.
The program, in keeping with artistic director Robert Battle’s effort to expand and diversify the company’s repertoire, will include works by some of today’s most respected choreographers. The company will perform Home by Rennie Harris, D-Man in the Waters by Bill T. Jones, and Battle’s Strange Humors. The performance will close with Ailey’s beloved masterwork Revelations.
Hancher has presented the company on six previous occasions, first in 1973 and most recently in 2008, to a combined audience of more than 19,000 people.
The performance is supported, in part, by the Hancher Partners and gifts to the Hancher Circle through the University of Iowa Foundation.
Tickets to the performance are available from the Paramount Theatre Box Office at 319-366-8203 or online at the Paramount Theatre website.
Hancher is offering transportation to and from the performance for $5. Tickets are available from the Hancher Box Office by phone at 319-335-1160 or 800-HANCHER or online at the Hancher website. Transportation will leave from the Hancher parking lot at 6:30 p.m. on the night of the show and will return to Iowa City 20 minutes after final curtain. Performance and bus tickets must be purchased separately.
Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all UI-sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, contact the Hancher Box Office in advance at 319-335-1158.
