Divers installed new flashboards on top of the Iowa River Burlington Street dam earlier this week. The flashboards raise the level of the dam slightly which provides for a slightly higher water level for the water plant intake. Based on duck behavior, above, it appears as though the new flashboards make catching dinner just a little bit easier as well.
Look for more work on the river in the coming days. Crews will be doing soil tests above the dam in preparation for a number of projects which are slated for next spring.
