Kate Lebo will read from her debut collection, A Commonplace Book of Pie, at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, in a free reading at Prairie Lights Books in downtown Iowa City. The reading also will be streamed live on the University of Iowa Writing University website.

Expanding on her successful chapbook of the same name, this volume includes new poems as well as more than two dozen Americana-themed illustrations by artist Jessica Lynn Bonin. Lebo blends her passions—poetry and pie—into a mixture of high art, pop culture, recipes, and fantasy zodiac.

Raised in the Pacific Northwest by Iowans, Lebo makes poems and pies in Seattle. Her writing has appeared in Best New Poets, Gastronomica, Hot Metal Bridge, and Poetry Northwest. She is an editor for the handmade literary journal Filter, has been a creative writing instructor at the University of Washington and Richard Hugo House, and hosts her semi-secret pie social, Pie Stand, at locations around the United States. She teaches pie making at Pie School, her cliché-busting pastry academy.
