With an unprecedented rate of flood recovery, health care, and other construction projects taking place around the UI campus including University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, officials remind students, faculty and staff, patients, and other visitors to campus to follow the designated alternate routes of travel, obey all traffic signals and signs, and stay alert near construction zones.

Pedestrians and bicyclists are advised against using shortcuts around or through construction areas. It is also good safety practice to avoid using headphones or talking on cell phones while traversing congested areas and in crosswalks.

"Flood recovery projects and new construction provide an exciting opportunity to change the face of the UI campus and are a realization of the 2006 Campus Master Plan,"says Rod Lehnertz, director of Planning, Design and Construction in Facilities Management. "However, we realize that with progress will come some inconvenience to our UI and local community and visitors. Great care is taken to work with contractors to preserve safety within and around construction sites; however, everyone needs to play an active role in maintaining their own safety and making good decisions.”

Facilities Management officials say it’s important to plan ahead and offer an Access and Construction Alerts website with a map and automatic email notifications about road, sidewalk, parking lot and building entrance closures.

UI Hospitals and Clinics provides construction notices and way finding maps on patient MyChart accounts, through the hospital’s Noon News publication, and on the Your Visit page this website.
