What: All newly admitted undergraduate and master’s teacher education students will receive free iPads at a ceremony in the College of Education’s Teacher Leader Center. The gift to make this possible comes from UI College of Education alumna Linda Baker, a retired teacher living in Golden, Colo.

When: After completing training to make the most of their new technology, the students will receive their iPads in a ceremony from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27.

Where: The Teacher Leader Center, 140 Lindquist Center North, on the UI campus.

Why: William Coghill-Behrends, professional development coordinator in the college’s Teacher Leader Center, says teacher education students will use their iPads during their studies as well as in their future classrooms.

“We know our students will be better because of it and because of that, their students are going to be better,” Coghill-Behrends says. “The ripple effect of this gift will literally go on for generations.”

Students will complete required ongoing professional development related to making the most of their iPads.

Who: Ceremony presenters will include Interim Dean Nicholas Colangelo and Associate Dean Susan Lagos Lavenz.
