We live in a world of abundance, in a culture that provides information and experiences undreamed of a generation ago. But because of the unending possibilities and clutter, we have lost our ability to “see."

That premise inspires "The Wonder and Discipline of Seeing," an exploration of art, film, design, faith, and stories that prompt participants to pause, invite a sense of wonder, and consider a new discipline of "seeing."

Justin Ahrens and Bob Davidson of Illinois-based design firm Rule29, will present the program Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in Room 101 of the Becker Communications Studies Building. Geneva Campus Ministry is sponsoring the event as part of the Geneva Lecture Series. The program is free and open to the public.

Ahrens is founder and creative director of Rule29, a TEDx speaker, and author of Life Kerning: Creative Ways to Fine Tune Your Perspective on Career and Life.

Davidson is Rule29's creative producer and co-founder of Project rednoW—a community committed to experiencing wonder through music, film, philosophy, design, and storytelling. He also holds a master's degree in theology from Fuller Theological Seminary.

Founded in 1976, the purpose of the Geneva Lecture Series is to demonstrate the continuing relevance of the Judeo-Christian message to the life of the mind. To date, the program has invited more than 70 nationally and internationally renowned speakers to the University of Iowa.
