University of Iowa College of Education Dean Margaret Crocco has announced her resignation as dean, effective Dec. 14, 2012. Crocco has served as dean of the College since July 1, 2011.

Executive Vice President and Provost P. Barry Butler will announce an interim dean later this week.

Butler expresses gratitude for Crocco’s accomplishments during her tenure. “It is remarkable what she has been able to do during her short time as dean,” he says, “especially in terms of raising public awareness about the College of Education, throughout Iowa and nationally.”

Crocco brought an excellent combination of experience, expertise, and energy to the college, according to Butler. “She is exceptionally smart, warm and outgoing, and she is a strategic thinker,” he says. “She has all the traits of a great leader. I was delighted when she agreed to take on this important role, and I am saddened to see her go.”

Though disappointed about Crocco’s departure, Butler remains confident about the future of the college.

“I am sure the college will attract an outstanding new dean, and will continue on its trajectory of excellence,” he says.
