“In This Moment: Women and Their Songs,” a recital program presented by Katherine Eberle, mezzo-soprano, will showcase the music of living female American musicians at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 17, in the Riverside Recital Hall on the University of Iowa campus.
The free recital will feature music by Juliana Hall, Lori Laitman, Libby Larsen, and Judith Cloud. These art songs weave lively histories and insights into a varied texture and will raise public appreciation for this extraordinary thread in women’s musical narrative.
This free concert is being performed by Eberle, an Obermann fellow and professor of voice in the UI School of Music, as part of her Women and Music Project. Eberle’s yearlong research project locates music for her students, culminating in a concert tour and compact disc recording project. The recital is a vibrant program of unusual songs presented by award-winning composers.
Eberle is an active and versatile mezzo-soprano soloist who specializes in oratorio, chamber music, art song, and opera. Her concert credits include solo performances with the symphonies of Detroit, Lansing, and Saginaw, Mich., and Atlanta, Macon, Rome, and Valdosta, Ga. She has given more than 100 solo recitals as a guest artist in 18 states and several countries. Eberle earned degrees from Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory (B.M.E.), the University of Cincinnati (M.M.), and the University of Michigan (D.M.A.). She has taught at the UI since 1991.
Eberle will be joined by pianist Ksenia Nosikova, a fellow UI School of Music faculty member. Nosikova has performed extensively in Europe, Asia, South America, and the United States. The scope of her concert engagements expands from prestigious professional concert venues to major academic institutions worldwide, including more than 80 American universities’ guest artist series. She is a graduate of Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and University of Colorado, a member of the American Liszt Society’s Board of Directors, and a Steinway Artist.
