A celebration observing the migration of thousands of birds and hawks will take place Saturday, Oct. 6, at the University of Iowa Macbride Nature Recreation Area and the Stainbrook State Geologic Preserve.
The UI Macbride Nature Recreation Center and the Raptor Center are located at 2095 Mehaffey Bridge Rd. NE near Solon, Iowa.
This free event kicks off with a 9 a.m. hawk identification presentation at the UI Raptor Center. Live birds-of-prey talks will begin at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Bird banding will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Raptor Center Bird Blind.
In addition to Raptor Center activities, Stainbrook preserve will host bird watching from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Members of the Iowa City Bird Club will be present to assist in identifying migrating birds.
This event is presented by UI Recreational Services and the Iowa City Bird Club.
