Deborah Loewenberg Ball, dean of the University of Michigan’s School of Education, will present a talk titled, “(How) Can all Children get Great Teaching?” at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15, in Jones Commons, Room N300 in the Lindquist Center.
The University of Iowa College of Education is hosting the discussion, which is free and open to the public.
“Answering this question involves devising a model of teacher education that takes seriously the significant effects of skillful instruction on student learning,” Loewenberg Ball says.
Loewenberg Ball is director of a new organization called TeachingWorks, which is described as “an effort to develop a comprehensive professional training curriculum that spans initial training through at least the first three years of teaching practice, with corresponding assessments to determine whether beginning teachers are ready to be responsible for a classroom of students.”
