Iowa Central Community College and the University of Iowa have formalized an agreement to allow Iowa Central students to earn a four-year degree without having to travel outside north central Iowa.

UI President Sally Mason and Iowa Central Community College President Dan Kinney will sign the agreement at a ceremony at 2 p.m., Monday, Sept. 17, in the Iowa Central Community College board room at One Triton Circle in Fort Dodge.

Four degrees will be offered online including the Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS), the Bachelor of Liberal Studies (BLS), the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), and the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-BSN) program.

These online degrees enable students who complete their Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Science (AS), Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree, or Registered Nurse requirements from Iowa Central to continue an online degree from the UI while remaining on an Iowa Central campus. This course work is an option for Iowa Central graduates throughout north central Iowa and makes getting a bachelors degree much more obtainable.

“The University of Iowa’s online programs are a great addition to Iowa Central’s already extensive list of online degree programs,” says Dave Grosland, Iowa Central’s vice president of instruction. “Whether you earn an Iowa Central degree on campus or online, this gives students more accessible and affordable options for completion of a four-year degree.”

“This partnership helps the university to reach place-bound students and provide them with the opportunity to earn a quality degree,” says Chet Rzonca, dean of the UI Division of Continuing Education. The BAS was specifically developed in response to a statewide study committee which identified the needs of community college graduates unlikely to attend a traditional campus.
