Old Capitol Museum to hold closing event July 26
Thursday, July 26, 2012

The Old Capitol Museum will host the closing reception for the "Art Iowa: Inspired by Landscape" 4-6 p.m. Thursday, July 26 in the Hanson Family Humanities Gallery. The reception marks the last weekend to see the exhibit as it comes to the end of its six-month run. It will close at 5 p.m. July 29.

The exhibit attracted more than 11,500 visitors, including special tours for more than 200 fourth- and fifth-grade students led by University of Iowa Museum of Art volunteer docent Jude Langhurst.

"Art Iowa: Inspired by Landscape" explores a wide variety of artwork including pieces by Grant Wood, traditional Meskwaki artists, and contemporary Iowa artists.

The exhibit brought in several artists and speakers for workshops and lectures, including Holly Berg, administrator of the American Gothic House Center; Judy Bales, a local artist working with found and everyday materials; and Barbara Fedeler, a charcoal landscape artist inspired by her childhood in Iowa. Fedeler's intricate landscape created on an Etch-a-Sketch is of the most popular pieces in the exhibit.

The reception will include light refreshments. For more information on the Old Capitol Museum or "Art Iowa: Inspired by Landscape" and its artists visit the museum’s website at www.uiowa.edu/oldcap or the exhibit website.
