The Daily Iowan was named a national Newspaper Pacemaker winner by the Associated Collegiate Press for 2024–25, marking the 10th time the college newspaper has received the recognition. 

The Daily Iowan was one of 17 winners nationally. This marks the fourth consecutive win for the DI, and the fifth win in the past six years.

In August, 49 newspapers were named Pacemaker finalists from 21 states and Washington, D.C. The award, announced on Oct. 18, is regarded the most-competitive, most-honored award in collegiate journalism.

“Winning a Pacemaker is an incredible honor that reflects the talent and dedication of our student journalists,” says Jason Brummond, Daily Iowan publisher. “What makes this so special is seeing our entire newsroom — from writers and editors to photographers, designers, and broadcasters — earn well-deserved recognition. I couldn’t be prouder of our team.”

Jami Martin-Trainor, the DI’s executive editor for 2024-25, was named best student reporter in the country. Martin-Trainor is currently an audience strategy editor at the Washington Post.

In addition, the Daily Iowan and DITV received fourth place for Best of Show in the Newspaper and Broadcast News Program categories, respectively.
