This spring, nearly 5,500 University of Iowa students will receive their degrees during in-person and livestreamed commencement ceremonies, beginning with the College of Pharmacy’s Doctor of Pharmacy ceremony on May 15 and concluding with College of Dentistry ceremony on June 6.

Dean Jill Kolesar will give remarks. Graduate and class president Cole Ludolph, of Morton, Illinois, will be the student speaker. Donald Letendre, College of Pharmacy professor and former dean, will be the guest speaker. President Barbara Wilson will confer degrees.

Undergraduate and Teacher Education Program ceremony

Dean Daniel Clay and President Barbara Wilson will confer degrees. Mark McDermott, associate dean for undergraduate education and educator preparation, will recognize those who completed the Teacher Education Program and who are graduating with the Education Studies and Human Relations major. Brad Kelly, restorative practices coordinator for the Iowa City Community School District and founder of the Community Reimagining Together Restorative Processes, will be the keynote speaker. Erika Johnson, College of Education assistant professor of elementary literacy, will be the faculty speaker. Hochi Rosario Cuevas, a graduating Education Studies and Human Relations major from North Liberty, Iowa, and originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico, will be the student speaker.

Executive Vice President and Provost Kevin Kregel and Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education Christopher Cooper will give introductory remarks. Jane Miller, professor and director of the Master in Medical Education Program; David Asprey, associate dean for medical education and professional programs; Amal Shibli-Rahhal, associate dean of student affairs; and James Choi, assistant dean of student affairs, will be joined by Jamieson, Kregel, and Cooper in conferring degrees. Patricia Winokur, executive dean of the Carver College of Medicine, and Bradley Haws, chief executive officer of the clinical enterprise and associate vice president of UI Health Care, also will participate in the ceremony.
Chandler Brown, a Doctor of Medicine graduate from Marquette, Michigan, will be the student speaker. Katherine Harris, clinical professor of internal medicine, will provide the commencement address. Akansha Jain, a MD-PhD graduate from Fairfax, Virginia, and the 2025 recipient of the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award, will administer the Physician’s Oath.
