Two graduates of the University of Iowa Nonfiction Writing Program are among those selected for a 2025 Guggenheim Fellowship.

Kerry Howley, who earned an MFA in 2011 and previously taught in the Nonfiction Writing Program, is a staff writer for New York magazine, the author of Bottoms Up and the Devil Laughs, and the screenwriter of the 2024 film Winner.

Kristen Radtke, a 2012 MFA graduate whose books include Seek You: A Journey Through American Loneliness, is the creative director of The Verge and a regular contributor to The New Yorker, The Atlantic, and The New York Times. 

The Guggenheim Foundation’s 100th Class of Fellows taps 198 trailblazing artists and scholars across 53 fields. The fellowships support individuals who have achieved notable success in their careers across the creative arts, humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences. The UI Nonfiction Writing Program is one of the oldest and most sought-after nonfiction programs in the country. Founded in 1976, the program has long been included on lists of top MFA programs and is one of the most selective, accepting just 4% of applicants.
