The University of Iowa Strategy Team, which was charged in spring 2021 with leading development of the university’s Strategic Plan 2022—2027, has published a draft of the plan and is seeking campus feedback.

The five-year strategic plan draft, developed during a period of unprecedented challenges, reflects the importance of supporting the success and wellness of the university’s people as individuals and as a community.

In consultation with the Strategy Team, a writing team spent December to March integrating content from four development teams and incorporating input from internal and external key stakeholders, campus leadership teams, and a campuswide survey.

From this information, five overarching priority goals were identified, as well as objectives and strategies that align with each goal. The five goals are:

  • Excellence in teaching and learning
  • Innovative research and creative discovery
  • Welcoming and inclusive environment
  • Holistic well-being and success
  • Transformative societal impact

All members of the campus community are encouraged to provide feedback on the draft plan via the strategic plan website by April 22.

“We want to thank everyone who has been involved in the development of the draft document. It represents the kind of collegial and collaborative process we value at Iowa, and this exchange of diverse ideas will shape the work that takes place across campus for years to come,” says Executive Vice President and Provost Kevin Kregel. “We encourage everyone to review the document and to share your comments, as your continued input, expertise, and experiences are key to finalizing an actionable plan that meets the needs of our campus.”

A final draft will be submitted to the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, in May. The board will consider the plan at its June meeting.
