A tree-specialist group at the University of Iowa has been recognized as a Tree Campus USA award winner in Iowa.

It’s the 10th consecutive year the Landscape Services Tree Crew, part of UI’s Facilities Management, has been honored. The UI tree crew received the 2018 Tree Campus USA Award on April 3 at the 29th Annual Community Forestry Awards Luncheon in Des Moines, Iowa.

The UI was the first college or university in Iowa to win the award in 2009 and is one of only six Tree Campus USA award winners in Iowa.

The award is presented by the Arbor Day Foundation and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

To earn the award, a campus must at a minimum have a campus tree advisory committee, a tree care plan, a tree program with dedicated annual expenditures, an annual Arbor Day observance, and a service learning project to engage the student body.
