Two faculty members in the University of Iowa Department of Pharmacology have been appointed to endowed professorships named for a former chairman of the department.
Pharmacology professors Stefan Strack, PhD, and Yuriy Usachev, PhD, were named the John Paul Long Professor of Pharmacology. The five-year appointments went into effect Jan. 1, 2017.
The endowed professorship was established in 2001 by the UI Department of Pharmacology to honor Long, a pioneer in the field of autonomic pharmacology and a longtime UI faculty member who served as head of the department from 1970 to 1983. Long retired in 1996. The endowed professorships—which honor Long’s impact on his colleagues, students, and fellows—will help support Strack’s and Usachev’s teaching and research efforts in the department.
The UI Foundation is the preferred channel of support for private contributions to all areas of the university.
