As the University of Iowa moves forward with the Board of Regents’ TIER (Transparent Inclusive Efficiency Review) project, the UI TIER leadership team is committed to keeping the campus informed on the latest developments in connection with the initiative.
The team will be sharing updates in Iowa Now on the 1st and 15th of each month. Information on the initiative can also be found on the UI TIER website.
Here are the latest developments on the UI’s academic and business cases:
University Shared Services
Chazey Consultants approved the project plan during a Board of Regents meeting Aug. 5.
The Beta Shared Services units continue to progress by taking on additional responsibilities. Shared Services at the College of Dentistry will add miscellaneous cash deposits and transaction review in the near future.
A subcommittee on Staffing Methodology was created and has met twice. Members include: Josey Bathke, Diana Leventry, Hans Hoerschelman, Trevor Glanz, Dani Weber, Cheryl Reardon, Sue Sager, Laura McLeran, and Debby Zumbach. This committee is responsible for creating the Shared Services Guiding Principles for staffing the new University Shared Services organization.
The Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development will kick off the pilot project with a general information meeting Aug. 14. Plans for implementation continue to be developed.
HR-01 Revise Distributed HR Delivery Model
Division of Continuing Education
The team has presented its recommendations to the leadership of the division. Discussions about the recommendations are taking place at this time.
Division of Vice President for Research and Economic Development and the Oakdale Campus
Discussions have been underway to determine the optimal way to proceed with an integrated implementation of both Finance Shared Services and HR redesign. Because this is the first area where both projects will be implemented simultaneously, many new questions require additional investigation and discussion.
On Aug. 14, representatives from the HR Redesign, University Shared Services, and Change Management shared information with the VPRED staff about their respective TIER roles. The next step for the HR Redesign will be to conduct the information gathering interviews.
University Libraries
The HR Redesign team began gathering information this past week through interviews with those individuals who perform Human Resources work. To date, five interviews have taken place with one more remaining. Once the final interview has taken place, the team will begin analyzing the data and formulating recommendations.
OneIT Listening Posts held Aug. 6-7
Last week’s OneIT Listening Posts drew more than 70 members of the campus community, who took advantage of the opportunity to discuss individual OneIT projects and the OneIT technology work stream as a whole.
Hosted by the OneIT Program Office, the open forums included conversations about how OneIT efforts would impact complex research/instructional support needs, how the transition to Office 365 cloud email would affect faculty, staff, and retirees, and status updates on OneIT projects.
The Program Office encouraged attendees to monitor or subscribe to the project pages on the OneIT website, noting that timelines, draft project plans, and more frequent project news briefs are being added.
