Ride through Iowa City caps off week full of Hawkeye pride

In reference to RAGBRAI, UI graduate Bob Carolan asks, "There's nothing quite like it, is there?"

There isn't. RAGBRAI is the largest bike touring event in the world, and this year it went through the University of Iowa campus.

"It's just fun to get out. You feel, honestly, like you're flying," says Ameya Walimbe, a rider on the University of Iowa Medical Scientist Training Program Team, part of the Carver College of Medicine.

Many other areas of the University were represented, including archaeology, law, and athletics. "There's just a lot of us from the University of Iowa, either from the cycling team or the triathlon team," says Michael Considine, a former member of the UI Triathlon Club. "We love to come out and hang out together and ride."

Carolan, a College of Law graduate, loves RAGBRAI so much that he canceled court in Kosovo this week, where he serves as an international judge on the Constitutional Court of Kosovo, in order to ride. "I've been on other bike rides in other parts of the United States and nothing duplicates the Iowa experience," Carolan says.
