Users should notice improvements in speed, performance of service

Information Technology Services is upgrading the Virtual Desktop service on May 20, and University of Iowa students and employees should notice dramatic improvements in speed and performance.

The Virtual Desktop service provides remote access, both on and off campus, to many university-licensed Windows applications. It allows users to utilize licensed software without having to obtain and install the software on their own computers.

The new system brings a new version of software called XenDesktop 7.5 App Edition (successor to XenApp) on new hardware. Along with great improvements in speed and reliability, the revamped service will offer a more unified look and feel across platforms with an “app store-like” interface.
