A virtual 3D anatomy program created by a University of Iowa lecturer and used to train medical students worldwide will be featured in an upcoming UI Alumni Association (UIAA) Lifelong Learning event in Dubuque.

The event takes place on Tuesday, March 11, at 6:30 p.m. at Carnegie-Stout Public Library, 360 W. 11th Street, Dubuque as part of the UIAA’s ongoing Lifelong Learning series,

In "The Pelvis: Gross Anatomy, Medicine, and Life in 3D," Darren Hoffmann, who received his doctorate from the UI in 2006, will discuss the complex structure of this anatomical region. He is also a lecturer in the UI Carver College of Medicine and vice chair of educational programs in anatomy and cell biology,

As the pelvis surrounds an intricate three-dimensional arrangement of structures from many organ systems, many people experience some kind of pelvic pain or problems requiring medical intervention.

Using the virtual 3D anatomy program he helped create, Hoffmann will explore the clinical and social significance of the pelvis, which plays a critical role in reproduction and the beginning of human life.
