The University of Iowa celebrated the new Main Library Learning Commons with a grand opening on Feb. 21.
UI President Sally Mason, Executive Vice President and Provost P. Barry Butler, University Librarian John Culshaw, UI student Kyra Seay, and others were on hand to officially open the new, state-of-the-art, study space that has been a hit among students on campus.
The Learning Commons features 24 group study spaces, approximately 200 desktop and laptop computers, a 45-seat TILE classroom, printers and scanners, multimedia resources, and expert library and technical staff.
The Learning Commons recently won a Masters Award from the Master Builders of Iowa, the first time a UI project has won the award. The project was one of 100 submissions in the $5-10 million construction cost category.
