UI Libraries hosts Valentine's week events
Monday, February 10, 2014

Love is in the air at the University of Iowa Libraries, where staff will be hosting several Valentine’s events throughout the week.

  • Feb. 10 and 12: Go on a blind date with a book. Take a chance with a wrapped-up library book, including contemporary fiction, graphic novels, and nonfiction bestsellers; no peeking until after you’ve checked it out. 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Group Area D, Learning Commons
  • Feb. 12: Search for love in the Iowa Digital Library (IDL). Learn how to find historic images in IDL, and use them to make valentines. 1-1:30 p.m. Group Area D, Learning Commons
  • Feb. 10, 12, and 14: Create a pop-up valentine card. Students from Center for the Book provide instruction on how to fold your way into someone’s heart. 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Group Area D, Learning Commons (Feb. 10 & 12), South Lobby, Learning Commons (Feb. 14)
  • Feb. 14: Fall in love with Special Collections. View vintage valentines, dance cards, romance comics, rare books, and more. 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. South Lobby Group Rooms, Learning Commons
  • Anytime: Send an e-valentine. Can’t make it to campus? No problem. Play along at home by sending a digitized vintage valentine to a friend: www.lib.uiowa.edu/forms/idl-ecard

“Valentine’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate love and affection,” says Kelly McElroy, undergraduate services librarian. “These events are a chance to explore expressions of love from our collections and make something to share with the people you adore.”

All events are free and open to the public. Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all UI-sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to attend these events, contact the UI Libraries in advance at 319-384-2090.
