The University of Iowa will host the traveling exhibit “Black Health Legends - Pioneers Who Dared to Care” on the health sciences campus in February and March.

The five-panel display featuring notable achievements of African-American health care pioneers will be hosted in two consecutive locations: the first floor atrium of the University of Iowa College of Public Health Building Feb. 19-28 and the first floor atrium of the Medical Education and Research Facility (MERF) March 4-14. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

A public reception for the exhibit will be held Tuesday, March 4, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the MERF atrium. Raynard Kington, president of Grinnell College, will be the keynote speaker at the event and will deliver remarks at 3:45 p.m.

The exhibit presents an overview of the historical challenges faced by African-American health care providers and features more than 100 individuals, institutions, and associations that have made significant contributions to the health of their local communities and the nation. It highlights the impact health disparities and lack of diversity have had on the health of the black community and aims to inspire African-American youth to pursue a career in the field of health care.
