The University of Iowa’s premier touring repertory company, Dancers in Company, splashes onto campus with its hugely popular home concert at 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 27-March 1, in Space Place Theater, 101 North Hall.

Now in its 30th year, the company of UI graduate and undergraduate dancers will perform its home concerts and then tour throughout Iowa and the Midwest, performing thrilling concerts and conducting outreach through lecture demonstrations for audiences of all ages.

This year’s Dancers in Company will also include a piece commissioned specifically for the concert by guest artist, Lisa Gonzales, an independent dance maker, performer, improviser, and associate professor at Columbia College, Chicago.

Interested in the complex array of meanings revealed by bodies moving in relationship to each other and their environment, Gonzales’ work often investigates some aspect of the power and frailty inherent in humanness. She has taught, performed, and shown her work in spaces as diverse as DTW in New York; The Dance Center of Columbia College, Chicago; the historic Lu-Ling Theater in Taipei, Taiwan; at the Dostoyevsky Theater in St. Petersburg, Russia; in Helsinki, Finland; in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; and in cities and spaces across the United States.

The full performance will include:

  • Bleed, choreographed by Lisa Gonzales
  • After All, choreographed by Eloy Barragán
  • Dream State: or Jung and the Restless, choreographed by George de la Peña in collaboration with the dancers
  • Seltsame Seligkeit (Strange Bliss), choreographed by Jennifer Kayle with collaborative movement development from the dancers
  • Box Play Eight Times Labor, choreographed by Esther-Baker Tarpaga and Olivier Tarpaga
  • Empty Mouth, choreographed by Armando Duarte in collaboration with the dancers
  • Myagi Style, choreographed by Ethan Rome
  • Undercover, choreographed by Charlotte Adams in collaboration with the dancers
