The University of Iowa is co-sponsoring a symposium in Des Moines from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Time today (Wednesday, Dec. 11) titled "Adapting to Weather Extremes: the Economic Impact in Iowa." Over the past few years Iowa has been experiencing swings from one weather extreme to another (severe storms, floods, and drought), according to the event website. These extreme fluctuations are expensive and are negatively affecting Iowa agriculture, businesses, government, and people.

The event, which takes place at Hy-Vee Hall, is sponsored by the UI Public Policy Center, the UI Center for Global and Regional Environmental Research, UI Hydroscience and Engineering, the Climate Science Program at Iowa State University, and the Iowa Water Center.
